We all strive for balance in our daily lives, our emotions, our habits, and yet the balance can be difficult to accomplish in the world modern. The same applies to the biochemical system in our bodies. Like every form of other carbon-based life on the planet, the human bloodstream maintains a balance pH (potential of hydrogen). We like to be slightly alkaline with a pH of 7-7.5 optimally.

What to do, I ask you, with our diet? Well, what we eat intimately effects of acid-alkaline balance in the body. This has been known since at least the 1930's. Unfortunately, not our diet modern, rich in highly acidic foods such as meat, white flour, sugar, soda and coffee, to mention extremely acidic substances such as prescription drugs and artificial sweeteners, has changed the pH balance of most of our bodies, the results of which, many naturopaths and nutritionists believe can be seen in greater numbers than the average cancer, chronic yeast infections, diabetes, poor digestion, depression, impaired immunity, joint pain, osteoporosis, weight gain, and even heart disease. Think of this acid is not healthy for living things, tends to eat through of things quickly. Acid in our bodies filter out minerals from the bones and organs by reducing our inherent damping system, which kills digestive enzymes in our small bowel, narrowing the metabolic processes and increases the growth of free radicals leading to an increase in cancer cells.

First things first:

To calculate whether you are balanced, you should test your PH. This is easy to do, both saliva and urine (I recommend both testing), tests are available in most pharmacies and health food stores and also here. I your pH falls within a healthy range good for you, keep doing what you're doing! If not, here are some quick and guaranteed to restore the PH balance of the body:

Take Magnesium: The most physicians agree that almost all Americans are chronically short on this important mineral. Magnesium is a very important nutrient for women, and which helps the body absorb calcium, thus preventing osteoporosis. Magnesium is one of the main actors in the organs of damping of the system and helps increase PH of the body quickly and naturally. It can also provide instant energy. A liquid supplement often sold with calcium is a great addition to a diet magnesium-rich heavy foods such as avocados, almonds, cashews and spinach.

Cut the Sugar: Besides being one of the substances more acidic we eat, the sugar is bad for weight maintenance and immunity. When replacing white sugar with stevia sweeteners more alkaline, agave syrup, maple syrup and you can see the instantaneous equilibrium in the body, not only with the PH levels but also blood sugar. I recommend stevia, especially because it actually helps to reduce levels of blood sugar.

Rev up the enzymes: Being too acidic can wreak havoc on the digestive enzymes in the small intestine, which weakens the ability of our body to break down food and use nutrients. This can lead to improper metabolism, weight gain and diabetes. By adding enzymes to the diet and two are good Bromelein (pineapple) and papain (from papaya) will create a better environment for highly alkaline fruit and vegetables nutrition to work its magic.
