Board Short Size

Question on short board foot placement?

I’ve been surfing about 3 days a week for a few months now, I’m 5′8 150 lbs. I’ve been riding on a 6′6 x 20 x 2 5/8 short board, can catch waves on most tries, bottom turn, and get down the line (on rights anyway). My question is that when I pop up, my rear foot is always an inch or two in front of the stomp pad. I just became conscious of it recently as I am now trying to carve more turns. When I shuffle my rear foot back so that it is over the fins, I slow down significantly, and sometimes the front of the board will ride up a bit. If I keep the pressure on with my front foot, and keep my rear foot over the fins, it feels like my legs are awkwardly stretched apart. What am I doing wrong? Should I not worry about it and keep working on my turns with my rear foot in front of the fins? Or is this a bad habit that will slow my progress? Or is my ’short’ board too long for my size? It paddles so nice! Any tips or insight would be appreciated. Thanks

i cant believe i’m about to pull a classic ‘John F’ move—-copy and paste….here goes.

when i started surfing i did the same thing. it really didn’t slow me down when i went down the line–but my board was less responsive when i started really learning to turn, snap or cutback. as i progressed, i would actually move my foot back right before i did a turn (or whatever). the more conscious i became of it, the less i did it. it kind of worked itself out in my case. hopefully it will for you too.
