Independent Skateboards
This is a typical session of the contribution. Parents bring the young to therapy, because it does not reach the school, disobedient, house and breaks the rules of the school, use profane language, and has no sense of personal responsibility. After further questioning by the therapist, parents described a family life that is full of tension, because the teenager is all to play at night on the computer, refuses to participate in family activities, sleeping during the day on weekends and will not help with any chores. While parents work hard all week, unable to leave home unattended on weekends because they are afraid of what will happen when they left. Neither punishment nor reward seems to work and parents fear for the future.
Parents say they are hurt and disappointed by the blatant lack of respect because all they require is that adolescents succeed in school, their education is their only job. Everything else is always to comfort teen – Bedroom, electronic goodies, TV, spending money, all their clothes, their favorite foods, preferred toiletry products, bikes, scooters, ATVs, and car.
As part of the admission session, the therapist asks the parents describe their history: the family of origin, educational opportunities, and challenges of life. It is a rare case where a parent education describes an idyll. For the most part, parents tell stories of hard work, goals developed and challenges and overcome by individual effort. Some have backgrounds that include the history of immigration and poverty at the beginning. Many, many parents say they want their children to the struggle less, feel less emotional pain, and get more than they did. In addition, they consider education towards future success of their children.
Unfortunately, the intentions of parents to create good in the circumstances that sabotage their dreams. Unlike their parents, young person has no sense of accomplishment, because it has few opportunities to meet and overcome obstacles to success. He has no idea how much that cost of things, because everything is free of him. Accordingly, he has no respect for parents working hard do not see the link between work and money. He sees life as a parent ATMs and feels entitled to the facilities, without any conditions. It feels entitled to the good things in life simply because it exists.
Should it be? How can parents raise their children to be very responsible, hardworking, resilient adults? Love is not enough. Responses are the same experiments that parents who are – the responsibility challenges, goal setting, gratitude for the opportunities, and confidence that is based on the achievements of real life.
 • Children need to have problems during development. Learn to overcome the challenges increases their sense of competence daily and can try new behaviors and to take appropriate risks. Start with simple things like eating and tying a shoe. It progresses the task independently, learn to plan and organize events, and demand for jobs. The person who performs work independent no sense of personal accomplishment.
 • Children need to experience life as an important part of a family system, which includes participation in household chores. Even very young children are able to do simple tasks like putting clothes in a drawer or stretch a blanket. Children grow as they can and should learn to cook, clean, wash clothes and. Skills of life are an important part of becoming independent. These types of activities also help children feel that their work is appreciated by the house.
 • Children should understand and respect the value of the property. When a person wins a point, it is much more likely that value and care for her. Moreover, a surplus of "stuff", it is more difficult to see an object also interferes with the ability of children to maintain good personal space organized.
 • Finally, children must understand that respect is earned and that mutual respect is based on a foundation of good communication. The use of foul language, sarcasm and a disrespectful tone interferes with good communication and leads to hurt feelings. All Children need to be taught the basics of polite discourse. When children begin to speak can be taught basic manners as well as knowledge when to use formal and informal. In older children, parents need to clarify that the shouting and using bad words to members of the family is not acceptable and will result in immediate negative consequences.
Ultimately, parents have an enormous personal power in the direction taken by the child. As role models responsible parents set the tone of family interactions. Parents who have high expectations of conduct adequately help their children understand that the assets of the independence and equipment must be earned through responsibility. Wealth without responsibility is a recipe for selfishness and promoting a sense of righteous life.
