Steps to a Better Logo Design!
Steps to a better design of logos!
Know your audience
- Know Your Customer
To design a good logo, it is necessary to know the client and the client's customer too. Many customers can come to you request a particular style of logo, or use of a particular symbol. Dig deeper to know what is unique about your client, how to solve customer problems, and its objective market.
- No idea is too stupid
Brainstorming is often the key to a good logo. Once you've fully explored your customer and your market, start typing words that apply to their clients. In fact, this is a step to do with his client. If the client is not going to spend time in a "formal" brainstorming, at least as to provide a list of words that describe your company. Do not throw anything for being too "stupid", sometimes the most "out there" the idea is, the more unique the resulting logo will be.
- Consider the competition
We are in the forum recently discussed whether or not the logo of a company must excel. I think it should, that is the whole purpose of a logo to stand out from the crowd. Others argued that while a logo should be unique, must still be similar to other corporate logos similar.
Whatever your opinion on the subject, is a good idea to take a look at the competition. The yellow pages can be a good starting point. Journals devoted to your client's industry may also be useful. A web search will undoubtedly turn a variety of logos for the contest.
Note the client budget
When interviewing a potential client, it is important to ask about your budget, not only to design the logo, but also for printing. Perhaps they are a big company and can afford four process color printing, or have a need for four-color advertising.
Maybe it's a medium-sized business and can afford two color printing with bleeds and metal plates. Then it's okay to use shades of color, and colors like playing this type of logo that require metal plates to be printed, bringing the cost of printing.
What if this is a new small business creating a budget? You might consider a color scheme with shades of that color. However, you need metal plates, but all you need one, which will reduce costs considerably. Or you can design a logo in two colors, but that does not use colors and shades of colors which do not touch. Then can get their copy of the laser to the camera ready or Velox and metal plates shall not be required, and costs are significantly reduced.
Start without equipment
The computer can be a wonderful tool for the design. You can work up to ten variants of a design in minutes, often the designs that could not have occurred to you, even without the flexibility of a computer. Whether or not you can draw, I encourage you to start designing without your computer.
The design without the computer really forces you to focus on the job at hand. Instead of simply grab the rectangle or ellipse tool, you start to really think as rectangle or circle, says about the company.
If you've never done sketches before designing a logo, I encourage you to try. You may be surprised at the results.
