Peralta Mike Vallely

What are current skateboard trends?

used to skate back in the day from the late 80’s to mid 90’s, and I’ve been thinking of getting back into it. I’m at a loss as to what type of board I should get. Compared to the boards back then, I noticed the current boards are thinner in width, lower to the ground, and the nose resembles the tail (much like the Barnyard Mike Vallely boards). I was wondering if there were any “hell concave” boards like the ones distributed by H-Street…or are concave boards not “in” anymore? Also, do skaters use rails, such as the powell peralta “rib bones?” Are there any hightop skate shoes, like the Airwalks back in the day? I also noticed Independant don’t make 159’s anymore, but still produce 149’s and 169’s. Were the 159’s replaced with another line of trucks? What about griptape? “Flypaper” was the in thing when I stopped skating. Do people use risers anymore? Basically, can someone tell me the difference between the boards in the mid-90’s to the current boards?

Concave- still in and very important

Rib Bones- are pretty much out

High Tops- Out

159’s- N/a

Griptape- Jessup, Black Magic

Risers- Out
