When you make a right turn on red (after coming to a complete stop) what traffic should you be watching for?
At first I though you just looked to the side (left) and checked for pedestrians, however what happens if the people in the left turn lane have a green arrow? How do you know they have a green arrow and should be expecting them to turn?
Yes, you watch that traffic from the left is cleared, that includes people in far lane if exist as well as near lane as they could be about to switch lanes. You also need to watch the left turn lane in the right to left direction, as a person there may be making a U-turn. If the light has turned red for the left-right traffic you will have to yield to any left turners who get a green arrow (otherwise if they didn’t get a green arrow you will have a green light yourself.)
AND, check your right mirror and blind spot for any gutter-snakes . . . motorbikes scooters or pedalbikes running up the gutter to pass you.
