Which college should I dorm in at UC Santa Cruz?
I’m trying to decide which college I should go to at UC Santa Cruz. I want a college that has some diversity, great ocean views, and people who are into their studies but studying doesn’t control their lives 24/7. I’m a Latina from SoCal who’s planning on double majoring in Anthropology (Still debating Archaeology vs. Forensic Anthropology) and Spanish and I’m a bit reserved. I like quiet but I wouldn’t mind a party every now and then. Which college do you suggest?
As you may already know, UC Santa Cruz is separated into ten residential colleges, which basically means ten communities of housing. With the information you gave, it sounds like you may want to consider Cowell College. It has a really good view of Monterey Bay and it has been noted to promote diversity in the campus (Oakes College does this, too) with the Multicultural Advisory Board, Parrington House (Nicknamed the Diversity Awareness House), and Diversity Encouragement Council all located or affiliated with the college. Since you mentioned you’re more of a reserved person but sociable at times: Cowell College’s motto is “The Pursuit of Truth in the Company of Friends”, which basically means that the college tries to create a “home” feeling and a close community of friends, so that way, you feel more at home rather than feeling you’re in a rowdy or party-crazy college.
