Skate Shop Package

By admin

Should I get new skates? And is this a good deal?

Well, I was looking online at www.kinziescloset.com and I saw a beginner figure skating package for $139.95 (probably in USD, how much would that be in Canadian dollars?) and it comes with:

- GAM Fantasia figure skates
- 1 pair of satin skate guards
- 1 pair of furry soakers
- 1 pair of furry gloves
- 1 deluxe skate bag

Is this a good deal? I couldn’t find a package without the skates, but then I wondered if I SHOULD get better skates. The ones I have now are hand-me-down CCM Pirouettes. It sounds like a good deal to me, but, then again, I’m only 13.
Thanks!

P.S. If this is a bad deal, then there are other packages with different skates. Here’s the link so that you can check them out if you want:

I’ve never taken lessons, but I’m good at skating. Eventually I want to compete.

Overpriced. I don’t know how much GAM Fantasias usually cost, but most beginner skates are 60-90 and the guards/soakers/gloves shouldn’t cost 50 dollars, I don’t know about the cost of the bag but it looks like a simple 20 dollar bag. You could get all those items separately on clearance or discount, and I don’t know what level you are, but you want your skates to be advanced enough to last 1-3 years (depending on how much you skate per week and how heavily or lightly you skate.)
I just bought skates that are rated to be about four-five levels above my skating level, and they’re very stiff, but I am advanced enough to break them in, yet I’m not so advanced that they’ll only last me six months like my beginner skates did. (My beginner skates aren’t advanced enough anymore.) I plan on them breaking down and wearing out before they become too under advanced, and I’d have gotten my money’s worth that way.

Even the 133 TS Riedell skate won’t last you years even if you’re a beginner, you’ll out-level it within a year. Shop around and find a skate comparison chart, and buy your guards, etc. separately, you can get a better deal that way. Usually your rink’s proshop will carry gloves, guards, etc. and they can fit you for skates. I’ve never heard of Riedell 21 TS skates, actually, but the TS series can be anywhere from Basic 6 to Freestyle levels.

You can get any old gloves at Walmart for three dollars, use towels for soakers, and find hard guards for $8-12 dollars at numerous sites. And you can use any old bag for skates, though I prefer my Transpack skate bag because it lets skates air out.
