You can probably learn how to pop shove it in less than an hour if you are capable of standing on a board without falling off. The trick involves popping the board into the air and and kicking the board to make it rotate through 180 degrees.
When skating ‘pop’ is the process of kicking the tail of the board down and causing the board to rise into the air. When you ollie, you pop the board into the air and drag your front foot toward the nose of the board causing it to level out. This isn’t necessary when you pop shove it.
How to Pop Shove It on a Skateboard: Step by Step
- Place your rear foot over the tail of the board, with the ball of your foot along the center line.
- Place the front foot between the bolts, with your foot evenly spread across the board.
- You can practice ‘popping’ by standing alongside the board and kicking the tail down with one foot.
- The harder and faster you pop, the higher the board will rise.
- Unlike the ollie, in which you pop straight down, you need to kick the tail of the board backward as you pop so that it rotates.
- Kick backwards for a back side and forwards for a front side.
- As you pop, jump up with your feet to allow the board to rise into the air and rotate.
- When the board has rotated through 180 degrees, drop your feet back down.
- Land with your feet over the bolts.
