In order for a reaper to harass your opponent into submission, it’s very important to combine both the micro and macro features of combat into one smooth battle plan. This means having the right build order, the right race match ups and the right circumstances for successful combat operations. Neglecting any of these can quickly result in defeat! So here is how to have each reaper harass your opponent until he has nothing left.
If you start by having each reaper harass at the right places and right times in combat, your enemy will get destroyed quicker than normal. But this means you need the right build order from the very beginning or your reaper tactics will not work at all. This brief guide will help walk you through the exact steps you need to take to get everything perfectly aligned and take out your opponent with nothing but reapers.
Start by blocking up your choke with barracks and supply depots so that you can have each reaper harass your opponent without getting rushed early on. Build a refinery before building your first barracks so you do not run a vespene gas deficit. Keep this area well stacked with units as well so you can fight off any zealots or marines that try to sneak by.
Build up 4-8 reapers and send them directly to your opponent’s mineral line. By now, your opponent should have at least a handful of basic infantry units lying around to defend against. This means you will need to kite units and in some cases even try to trick him into thinking you’ve retreated or fallen back. Have a reaper harass the mineral lines as often as possible.
Transfer this strategy into macro tactics by building up a 4 barracks and pumping out several reapers at a time rallied to just outside your opponent’s base. Make each reaper harass together in larger and larger groups so that your opponent will get more and more frustrated with the resistance. Target buildings as often as possible since reapers have the ability to hit buildings with a grenade that does much more damage than normal.
Finally, if needed, don’t just use a reaper to harass your opponent. Bring in some Terran infantry to support by building a 5th or even 6th barracks and a few more expansions. Assuming you have kept a persistent influx of larger and larger groups of reapers to harass your enemy, it shouldn’t be a problem transferring into macro while he is still troubled with his wounds. Keep up the heat and finish him off!
