Lords of Dogtown: the true story of the Z-boys
The site of the old park of the Pacific Ocean in the area of the beach, the border of Venice and Santa Monica is a kind of sacred legend in skateboarding and surfing community. The area, which is nicknamed Dogtown, was immortalized in the 2001 skateboarding documentary, Dogtown and Z-Boys, and later in the 2005 Feature film Lords of Dogtown, based on characters and events introduced in Dogtown and Z-Boys.
Dogtown and Z-Boys, directed by Stacy Peralta (himself a member of the original Z-Boys) and narrated by Hollywood star Sean Penn, tells the history of skateboarding. The documentary charts the story of a group of young surfers / skateboarders in Santa Monica, known as the Z-Boys, and their influence on the history of skateboarding (and to a lesser extent, surfing) culture using a combination of film of the Z-Boys filmed in the 1970s and, more recently, have been interviewed.
The aerial and sliding skate moves that the Z-Boys was invented the basis for the skate and surf company still popular today. These are only twelve ordinary teenagers who walked in Santa Monica just wanted Dogtown skateboard and surf. Never have known that they would start a revolution by turning what was a recreational pastime in an extreme sport.
Considered equipment such as skateboarding's most influential in history, the Z-Boy continues to this day as an expression of performance, innovation and style.
Known officially as the Zephyr Skateboard Team, the Z-Boys began when transferred from their pipes surfing skills drain and empty swimming pools with stunning results. Their acrobatic maneuvers inspired generations of young people to join the frenzy and the Skateboard catapulted to fame and fortune, most of the original Z-Boys went to compete professionally. Bob "Bullet" Biniak Retirement skating in 1980, but went to play professional golf, while the only female member of the Z-Boys, Peggy Oki, rejected Skating for surfing, and he participated in surfing competitions around the world. Jim Muir and Tony Alva refused offers from the major skate companies to create your own, and were the skaters first to do so.
In 2005, Stacy Peralta wrote the screenplay for Lords of Dogtown, which tells the dramatic days Dogtown. Starring Heath Ledger and Rebecca De Mornay, and an apparition of the most famous today perhaps the world skateboarder Tony Hawk, Lords of Dogtown is more focused on relationships between the Z-Boys, looking at their friendships, how they coped with fame, and how it has become increasingly competitive for others. He also focused on the major As the tragic loss of associated Sid Z-Boy, who lost a battle against brain cancer.
Skaters and surfers who wish to make a pilgrimage to the iconic and legendary Dogtown themsleves can find a hotel in Santa Monica for their accommodation needs, and fortunately, the region has greatly improved since the Dogtown days.
The history of Dogtown and Z-Boys is an inspiring story of determination, rebellion, and friendship, and even those who have no interest to skateboarding and surfing, and was won by this fascinating little piece Sub-American culture.
